Can I use my phone as a dashcam?

It is possible to turn your phone into a dashcam by downloading an app, but there are reasons not to do this. Issues include overheating and locking up, shortened smartphone and SD card lifespan, inbound calls or texts stopping the recording, phone holders blocking the driver’s view or attracting thieves, low frame rates, narrow viewing angles, and poor handling of glare or moving objects. The law also suggests dashcam positioning should be behind the rear-view mirror, which may be problematic when using a mobile device.
